The focus of the 8 week hockey programme is to develop a man2man defence system, which aims to force the opposition onto forehand and the right boards.
These skills and exercies are great for all players basics so if your team is playing indoors or not give them a try. Even if your not in an indoor league, these new drills are great for a team practicing indoors during the winter months.
Hook Dribble
Description: Player 1 runs with the ball through the little slalom and passes the ball to player 2 on the left hand board. Player 2 turns with the ball in field and runs in a arc (hook)towards the top of the circle and shoots into the goal.Player 1 after passing goes to stand by the board to receive the next ball and run to the circle and score.
Coaching Points: Player 1 has to pass to player 2's forehand. Player 2 should try and receive the ball on the move and turns over his/her left shoulder to drive down the reverse stick side of the defenders. The drag shot at goal should start outside the circle.

The aim in offence is to develop a simple, mostly anti-clockwise, rotation of the 3 forwards and a team focus of trying to play down the reverse stick of the opposition.
Rotate Forward
Description: Player 1 runs through slalom passes the ball down the board to the
reverse stick of player 2 who passes the ball to player 3 who moves
towards the ball and turns infield to run and pass the ball to player 4
who started his/her run on the half way line to receive the ball and
run into the circle and shoot on the move.
Coaching Points: Emphasis on first pass with backhand receiving with 2nd amd 3rd pass at speed

Sportplan will be developing a library of indoor practices and a number of progressive 30 minute sessions. To start with the practices will be static but once the indoor section is complete we will animate and video the individual practices and skills.
So until next time, good luck with your christmas shopping and the indoor season,
Bram van Asselt
